Proton has told partners when its Black Friday pricing goes live and what it will cover, and it is earlier than most: Monday, October 26, 2026, running through November 30. The discounts span the whole suite, not just the VPN, and the headline is 75% off VPN Plus on the 24-month plan. Mail Plus, Drive Plus and Pass Plus each get 60% off their annual plans, and the all-in Proton Unlimited bundle gets 50% off the 12-month plan.

The offers are not live yet. Until October 26, Proton's pages show standard pricing. We are publishing the details now because the question of whether to wait is the one worth answering before the sale starts, and for most Proton products the answer is yes.

What is coming

Product Black Friday discount Plan What it is
VPN Plus 75% off 24 months The paid VPN: 10 devices, 20,000+ servers in 140+ countries, NetShield, Secure Core
Mail Plus 60% off 12 months End-to-end encrypted email with custom domains, 15 GB, unlimited folders and filters
Drive Plus 60% off 12 months Encrypted cloud storage, 200 GB
Pass Plus 60% off 12 months Password manager with unlimited hide-my-email aliases, 2FA, secure sharing
Proton Unlimited 50% off 12 months Everything above plus Calendar and Wallet, 500 GB, in one subscription

Window: October 26 to November 30, 2026.

Proton has not yet published the exact dollar and euro figures, and we will not guess them here. For orientation: VPN Plus currently lists at $9.99 month-to-month and roughly $2.99/month on its longest term, so a 75% discount measured against the monthly rate would land in the region of $2.50/month paid up front for two years. Treat that as our arithmetic, not Proton's price. We will update this article with the live figures on October 26.

Why "wait for October 26" is the right call

Proton's standard long-term pricing is already its cheapest, and the Black Friday discount is applied to those long-term plans. If you were about to buy a two-year VPN Plus plan at today's rate, eleven days of patience is worth a large share of the price. The same applies to the annual Mail, Drive and Pass plans.

The one exception is anyone whose need is immediate: a trip starting this week, an account to secure today. For that, the free tiers cover a lot of ground until the sale opens. Proton VPN's free plan has no data cap and no ads on one device, Proton Mail's free tier gives you an encrypted inbox, and Proton Pass is free with unlimited logins. Start free on October 15, upgrade at the discount on October 26, and nothing is lost.

The "complete privacy setup" angle, examined honestly

Proton's own pitch for this sale is that you can cover browsing, email, storage and passwords at once. Whether Unlimited at 50% off or individual plans at 60–75% off is the better route depends on how many of the four you will actually use.

  • One product. Buy that product's plan. The individual discounts are deeper than the bundle's, and VPN Plus in particular is the standout at 75% on a 24-month term, which also locks the price for two years rather than one.
  • Two products. Usually still cheaper separately, but check the live prices on October 26. Two annual plans at 60% off against one Unlimited at 50% off is close enough that the exact figures decide it.
  • Three or more. Unlimited wins. It includes the top tier of every service plus 500 GB of Drive storage, which on its own costs more than Drive Plus's 200 GB, and it is one renewal date to track instead of three.

The honest caveat from our Proton VPN review still applies: the bundle is wasted spend if you do not use the wider ecosystem. Do not buy Unlimited for the VPN alone.

What you are actually buying

The reason to pick Proton over a cheaper VPN in the same sale is not the discount, it is the company.

  • Swiss jurisdiction, outside the Five Eyes and Fourteen Eyes alliances, with privacy law that requires a Swiss court order for any data request.
  • Open-source apps across the suite, with four consecutive independent no-logs audits on the VPN, including physical inspection of servers.
  • Independent ownership. Proton AG's majority shareholder is the non-profit Proton Foundation. That matters in a market where ExpressVPN, CyberGhost and PIA share one corporate owner and one marketing calendar, as we set out in what happens when a VPN company changes ownership.
  • A free tier that is genuinely free on every product, which is the most credible signal a privacy company can send about how it makes money.

For the individual products: Proton VPN's NetShield blocks trackers at the DNS level across every app, not just the browser, which we covered in trackers in your inbox and apps. Proton Pass fixed its autofill weaknesses in August and now handles passkeys, 2FA and iframe logins properly. Proton Drive gained a command-line client and much faster uploads in June.

How it compares to the other Black Friday VPN deals

Surfshark opened its Black Friday campaign on October 12 with Surfshark One at the Starter price of $2.49/month on a two-year plan. The Kape brands are running Halloween promotions this week and will almost certainly follow with Black Friday pricing in November.

Proton will not be the cheapest VPN in the sale. It rarely is. Its case is that the gap between its Black Friday price and the cheapest competitor buys Swiss jurisdiction, audited open-source clients and an owner with no exit to sell to. Whether that is worth a dollar a month is a judgement about your threat model, not about the discount.

Before you buy on October 26

  • Check the renewal price. Black Friday pricing applies to the first term. Proton's standard annual renewal on VPN Plus is around $83.88, so a two-year plan bought at $2.50/month renews at a very different number. Our guide to cancelling a VPN subscription covers setting a reminder and getting out cleanly.
  • Confirm the refund window. Proton offers a 30-day money-back guarantee. Verify it applies to the promotional plan at checkout.
  • Pick the term deliberately. VPN Plus's 75% is on the 24-month plan only. If two years is too long a commitment for you, the 12-month plan will carry a smaller discount or none; wait for the live pricing to decide.
